Canopy In My Mind

Canopy-in-my-Mind

I wake to the sound of hungry eyes

Heart beating to the rhythm of dancing butterflies

I feel the weight of a thousand dew drops hanging in the sky

Smell the sweet decay of life

Trapped under this canopy in my mind

I let the earth hold my hands

And caress the land to which I’m bound

I look up to a sky that wishes never to be found

Seeping rays of light that barely reach the ground

My soul is tethered to these trees

Their roots wrapped around my bones

I drink the wisdom which leaks from their pores

And taste the salty discourse they’ve come to know

So much movement in the stillness of this forest

So much chatter in the silence

I fall asleep to the noiseless cacophony

Knowing I’ll wake

Still trapped under this canopy in my mind.
